The proposed extension of the Expo Line is currently in the
early stages of the environmental planning process. A draft
EIS/EIR is anticipated to be available for public comment
in Winter 2008. Over the next year, Authority staff and
the environmental consultant will work closely with the
communities along the Phase 2 corridor and will conduct
meetings at strategic milestones during the planning process.
Community Workshops:
In late March/early April, the Expo Authority held 3 community workshops throughout the Expo Phase 2 alignments to present the latests findings regarding grade crossings, station and parking locations, and other key elements of the proposed project. The workshops were very productive, with over 300 stakeholders in attendance, many of whom submitted comments in writing. Comment sheets received at the workshops have been compiled and are available below.
The Phase 2 team will be considering the input received at these workshops, oral and written, as well as written comments submitted in response to the workshops as they continue preparing the Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIS/DEIR).
Project Overview
Phase 2 of the Expo Line project proposes to improve public transit service and mobility in the Exposition Corridor by extending the benefits of Expo Phase 1 (under construction) beyond its currently planned terminus in Culver City to a terminus in Santa Monica. Phase 2 is in the early stages of the Alternatives Analysis (AA) process and the development of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Environmental Impact Report (EIR).
Initial Screening Results
Following extensive analysis of the nine alternatives that came out of the scoping meetings last March, the Expo Authority has narrowed down the routes and modes that will move forward through the environmental process for further analysis. These include Light Rail Transit (LRT) on the Exposition Right-of-Way (ROW), LRT on Venice/Sepulveda (then connecting with the ROW), and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on the ROW. In addition, Transportation Systems Management improvements and a No-Build option will also be evaluated.
