Colorado Avenue Closure
Plan Your Route and Be Prepared
As part of the Expo Line project, the design-build contractor SRJV has implemented a permanent closure of eastbound lanes on Colorado Avenue between 4th Street and 5th Street in downtown Santa Monica.
> This closure is necessary for construction and operation of the Colorado/4th Street Station
> The closure was implemented on Monday, February 18, 2013
> Station Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2013
Know Before You Go
A. Colorado Avenue
> Eastbound lanes on Colorado Avenue will be permanently closed to all traffic between 4th Street and 5th Street. Take 4th Street to Olympic Boulevard or Broadway as an alternate.
> Westbound Colorado Avenue will be reduced to one through lane and one left turn lane between 4th Street and 5th Street.
> Left turns onto southbound 5th Street from westbound Colorado Avenue will be allowed during construction but prohibited during operation
B. 4th Street
> Northbound traffic turning right on to Colorado Avenue will be directed to Broadway or further north as an alternate.
> Southbound traffic turning left on to Colorado Avenue will be directed to Olympic Boulevard or further south as an alternate.
C. 5th Street
> Northbound and southbound 5th Street will remain open to through traffic, allowing both right and left turns at Colorado Avenue
D. I-10 Freeway
> The 4th/5th St. freeway exit will remain open; however, motorists will be encouraged to use Lincoln Blvd. or 5th St. as alternate routes to Downtown Santa Monica.
Other Advisories
> Electronic message boards and directional signage will be used to direct traffic around the construction zone
> Local access to businesses and residences will be maintained throughout all construction activities
